The board believes that it is extremely important for all employees to avoid any action which might result in, or create the appearance of, using public office for private gain or giving preferential treatment to any person. Accordingly:
- No employee may participate in the selection for employment of any person who is an immediate member of his/her family.
- The recommendation for employment of a person related to an employee must be supported by documentation showing procedures followed, persons involved in the selection process, records, transcripts, work experience, etc. The evidence should demonstrate that selection was based on choice of the person best matched to the position and the needs of the district.
- Without authorization from the superintendent, no employee shall directly or indirectly supervise or evaluate a member of his/her immediate family. As used in this policy, the term “immediate member of his/her family” shall mean the relationship of husband and wife, parent or guardian and child, brother and sister, brother- and sister-in-law, mother- and father-in-law, daughter- and son-in-law, grandparents and grandchildren.
All violations of this policy shall be treated as a serious infraction and may result in disciplinary action up to and including discharge.
